I agree with you, maybe just got lost in the verbage.
In summary
- Romans were an important part of Christianity's founding myth/story/record of facts (depending on your view)
- The earliest "Christians" in Judea believed in Judaism with Jesus as the ( or a ) messiah.
- Where this believe system took root was mostly in the Roman world.
- The codification of the beliefs took place under Roman authority (calling the bishops together) and in Roman territory, while being heavily influenced by Greek philosphy.

The EU being "gone" would be a massive leap forward in European cultural civilisation - unless you happen to be in the camp that firmly believes that administration & management is far more important than production & wealth creation.
